Note that Stellarium supports ASCOM telescopes natively since version 0.19.3. There’s no need to use StellariumScope in order to use your ASCOM telescopes with Stellarium anymore. Users should consider switching to the native Stellarium ASCOM option going forward rather than using StellariumScope. StellariumScope continues to work with Stellarium 0.20.x if you need the extra features that StellariumScope provides.

  •  Now scroll down to the release version you want and select the associated download link. The 2016-12-26 release still works with all recent Stellarium releases as of 2019-12-01.
  • Just a reminder that Stellarium must have the focus in order for the keyboard keys to work. This means that using some other Window other that Stellarium (such as when you do a manual slew using a Windows utility), the Stellarium Window loses focus. If you use a GamePad this is not an issue. In order to restore focus to Stellarium, click the top border... not somewhere inside the Stellarium Window or you will be setting a new object location.
  • the release 2016-12-26  works with versions 0.17.0 & 0.18.0 of Stellarium... so no new release of StellariumScope is required as of 2019-12-01. You may receive a warning message about the version but that can typically be ignored.. You may also receive a message about the "Telescope plugin' that may require Stellariun be started and stopped a couple of times. This will typically activate the "Telescope plugin" option of Stellarium (see information below).
  • If you are using an earlier version of StellariumScope (you can just ignore the version warning messages),  you may find  the first time you use Stellarium  the Telescope plugin option may not start automatically. How to fix that:
    • Start Stellarium
    • Go to Configuration window | Plugins | Telescope Plugins
    • Under options, tick "Load at startup"
    • Goto main and [Save Settings]
    • Close Stellarium
    • Run StellariumScope and do the usual [Update]
  • For some reason Windows 10 Defender (and  possibly Norton) is identifying the setup as having a virus.  To my knowledge all files on this web site are virus free but please be cautious.  Use VirusTotal web site to test for yourself.

The installation program will automatically install the documentation but the link to the documentation is provided here so you can read it before installation. Here's the interim documentation for the for Stellarium 0.14.x

Release 2016-12-26 (beta)

This release of StellariumScope is designed to use Stellarium 0.15.x. It may work with other versions of Stellarium but it has only been tested with 0.15.x (Win 64). This version appears to work with Windows 10 but I have only been able to test it with a simulator. If your current installation works "stick with it".  The old rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies.

The major change in this version is the setup of Stellarium options on the command line. This is of particular interest if you need these option to address graphic card issues and need to start Stellarium with an option. You could, of course, start Stellarium with your own shortcut rather than using StellariumScope. Access the settings using Options | Modify Stellarium Command Line.

Use this version of StellariumScope with the usual caution... ALWAYS MONITOR YOUR MOUNT'S MOVEMENTS!

You may find that Norton blocks the download with a "WS.Reputation.1" message because StellariumScope is not a common program... we astronomers are a relatively small community. The only suggestion I can make is to tempoararily turn off Norton protection, download the file and then use VirusTotal dot com to verify that it is virus free before actually installing StellariumScope... that's a really good practice for any downloaded application. Typically you should find that the scan is clean for all the major anti-virus apps... occasionally a minor player in the anti-virus apps may give a false positive.

You should typically delete the .ini files (see: Options menu item) using your currently installed version of StellariumScope, start and stop Stellarium, install the latest StellariumScope and then use the [Update Stellarium Configuration] button after starting StellariumScope. An additional stop/start of Stellarium may be required if the Telescope plugin was not started. It should then start automatically for future sessions.

Release 2016-08-31 (beta)

This release of StellariumScope is designed to use Stellarium 0.15.x. It may work with other versions of Stellarium but it has only been tested with 0.15.0 (Win 64). It replaces the 2016-08-21 version that was missing a self-checking security feature that minimizes the possibility of a virus attaching to the application.  This version appears to work Windows 10 but I cannot confirm this.

This version is essentially the same as 2016-05-01. Some minor fixes plus code to force the startup of the Telescope plugin.  Use this version of StellariumScope with the usual caution... ALWAYS MONITOR YOUR MOUNT'S MOVEMENTS!

Release 2016-05-01 (beta)

This release of StellariumScope is designed to use Stellarium 0.14.3. It may work with other versions of Stellarium but it has not been tested except with 0.14.3 (Win 64).  It may work with Windows 10 but I cannot confirm this.

This version is essentially the same as 2016-03-20. The change attempts to deal with changes in new versions of Stellarium automatically.  Use this version of StellariumScope with the usual caution... ALWAYS MONITOR YOUR MOUNT'S MOVEMENTS!

You should typically delete the .ini files (see: Options menu item) using your currently installed version of StellariumScope, start and stop Stellarium, install the latest StellariumScope and then use the [Update Stellarium Configuration] button after starting StellariumScope.

Release 2016-03-20 (beta)

This release of StellariumScope is designed to use Stellarium 0.14.x. It may work with other versions of Stellarium but it has not been tested except with 0.14.0 and 0.14.1 and 0.14.2 and 0.14.3 (Win 64).  It may work with Windows 10 but I cannot confirm this.

This version is essentially the same as 2016-03-15. It does remove the timer for some initial messages that were long and and needed to be displayed until read. Use this version of StellariumScope with the usual caution... ALWAYS MONITOR YOUR MOUNT'S MOVEMENTS!

Release 2016-03-15 (beta)

Note: Release 2016.03.05 was withdrawn because there were screen resolution issues for some installations.

Note: Release 2016.03.06 was withdrawn because there were issues with error messages that were hidden behind Stellarium.

Note: Release 2016.03.07 was withdrawn because there were issues with memory.

Note: Thanks to feedback from users, several bugs have been resolved. However, remember it is a "beta" release so anticipate some minor issues.

This release of StellariumScope is designed to use Stellarium 0.14.x. It may work with other versions of Stellarium but it has not been tested except with 0.14.0 and 0.14.1 and 0.14.2 (Win 64).  It may work with Windows 10 but I cannot confirm this. If your current installation works "stick with it".  The old rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies.

This releases introduces a slightly different layout moving many of the options off the main window. It provides many options to automate the startup of Stellarium, the mount and the StellariumScope window. In particular, it minimizes or hides windows that are not needed once all is connected. If you have a full size keyboard and/or a second screen, you can take advantage of alternate keys for control as well as automatically position Srtellarium on the second monitor screen.

There have been a number of small changes "behind the scenes" to try to handle error condtions. In particular, any "crash" of StellariumScope will record details in a log file that may help analyse the problem.

Release 2015-12-02 (beta)

This release of StellariumScope is designed to use Stellarium 0.14.x. It may work with other versions of Stellarium but it has not been tested except with 0.14.0 and 0.14.1.   If your current installation works "stick with it".  The old rule of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies.

There have been several changes with repect to "beeps" while slewing. If you are an EQMOD user, I would recommend turning off the StellariumScope beeps and use exclusively the sounds generated by EQMOD.  Simply expand the EQMOD window and click the sound icon to open up the sound configuration window. EQMOD makes available a large selection of sounds and options.

Use this version of StellariumScope with the usual caution... ALWAYS MONITOR YOUR MOUNT'S MOVEMENTS!

You should typically delete the .ini files (see: Options menu item), start and stop Stellarium, and use the [Update Stellarium Configuration] button after starting StellariumScope.

Release 2015-10-31 (beta)

This release of StellariumScope is designed to use Stellarium 0.14.x. It may work with other versions of Stellarium but it has not been tested except with 0.14.0.  There have been a number of changes "under the hood" as well as support for alternate keys. Use this version of StellariumScope with caution... ALWAYS MONITOR YOUR MOUNT'S MOVEMENTS!

You should typically delete the .ini files (see: Options menu item), start and stop Stellarium, and use the [Update Stellarium Configuration] button after starting StellariumScope.
